EFICE participates in both European and regional projects that aim to digitise, modernise, and make the seafood sector more sustainable. Through collaboration with industry partners, research institutions and governments, we develop new technologies that support smarter decision-making, efficient data exchange, and responsible fishing practices.

Through these projects, EFICE contributes to a more transparent, efficient, and sustainable future for the seafood industry, combining deep domain expertise with technological innovation.

DigiWaves aims to accelerate the digital transformation of fisheries monitoring, control, and surveillance (MCS) by co-developing interoperable, cost-effective, and scalable digital solutions that enhance transparency, compliance, and sustainability across diverse European fisheries. A key focus is on small-scale, long-distance, and recreational fisheries.

ECO-CATCH promotes responsible fishing through innovative tools and data-driven insights. The project’s goal is to minimise environmental impact while maintaining profitability and compliance with sustainability regulations.

OptiFish aims to develop, test, and validate technologies that will improve onboard monitoring of catch volumes and fish health, enabling fishers to improve the sustainability of their operations, and better meet control requirements.

Digivloot is a Dutch project that aims to digitise the Netherlands’ demersal cutter fleet. Fishing vessels are equipped with on-board computers that collect real-time data on fuel consumption, catch, and vessel behaviour. This gives skippers instant insight at sea and enables vessel owners to make better-informed decisions on shore, ultimately helping the fleet fish more efficiently and sustainably.

FDF 2.0

Fully Documented Fisheries is a project that uses AI cameras to identify and register all fish caught by species and size. This allows vessels to document catch and unwanted bycatch without manual effort or additional crew. The aim is to make compliance with EU landing obligations practical and affordable, while providing better data for the sustainable management of fish stocks.

Catching Data aims to establish a new knowledge system by and for the fisheries sector. The project uses data collected on fishing vessels to improve understanding and management within the sector. This supports data-driven decision-making in the sector.

Connecting Sea, Shore, and Systems

PoseiDAT

PoseiDAT is an open-source standard data format designed to simplify and harmonise the exchange of fisheries data. It provides a common structure that enables consistent data sharing between organisations, projects, and information systems across the fisheries sector.

The format is continuously developed and expanded through a wide range of international projects and collaborations, ensuring that PoseiDAT evolves alongside emerging data needs, technologies, and regulatory requirements.
